For decades, maybe centuries, we’ve been told, “Patience is a virtue,” yet we live in an increasingly “faster, faster, pussycat,” world.

A trainer and a team of owners famous for not leading horses up to the starting gate until they’re ready. A jockey who sat chilly through a sizzling pace for a tactical ride.
As for the above photo, I can’t say, “Orb slept here,” because I don’t know. What I do know is I took that photo on a Saratoga Racecourse photo tour last summer, and I get to use it here.
Congratulations, Shug McGaughey, Joel Rosario, Ogden Mills Phipps, Stuart Janney III, the crew at the Phipps Stable and Orb, who probably knows he “done good” and may have celebrated with a treat or two, but not too many. He’s still in training.
