Free Horse Show Webcasts

We’ll be able to watch a couple of big American horse shows for free on the web this weekend. Again, you’ll be a lot happier while you’re trying to watch if you have high-speed Internet or broadband.

The shows feature American Saddlebreds and Tennessee Walking Horses. The action starts earlier in the week with the saddlebreds.

American Saddlebreds

The third jewel in the American Saddlebred Triple Crown is the UPHA/American Royal Horse Show in Kansas City, Missouri, on Tuesday, Nov. 18.

The webcast is free. I haven’t seen the show yet, but this link about the webcast shows how information will be presented along with the action. It looks pretty neat. The classes showcase pleasure and performance horses. Action starts on Tuesday, Nov. 18 at 11 am CST. The class schedule will give you more specifics.

BTW, the American Saddlebred Triple Crown consists of three horse shows

• The Lexington Junior League Horse Show in July
• The World Championship Horse Show at the Kentucky State Fair in Louisville in August
• The American Royal in Kansas City in November

Tennessee Walking Horses

The Southern Charity Championships in Perry, Georgia, will be presented live by What a Horse, the Tennessee-based cable TV access show that’s available over the Internet. Show creator and co-host Jerry Harris has reported Internet viewers that include US troops stationed overseas.

This is an evening show with no day classes. The show action starts on 6 pm CST on Thursday, Nov. 20 and runs through Saturday night, Nov. 22. Here’s a class schedule. Jerry and his co-host Jim Fuller also provide fun folksy interviews with walking horse enthusiasts.

Both pleasure and performance walking horses will be showcased. It’s the last show of the season and includes Riders Cup competition which will bring out the major trainers in competition for points. And you’ll also see a center ring decorated with Christmas trees.

You will need to register at the WAH site to watch, but that’s it. The show is free.
