Rebecca – I did some websurfing and didn’t find any additional follow-ups to the auction of the SDPD horses. Most of the updates were about the sales prices, as you can see in this article:

When I wrote this article, my question was more along the lines of what’s an appropriate retirement for equine police officers? Police consider all the animals who work with them brothers-in-arms. Police horses are regarded as highly as police dogs. It’s not like selling off, say, old police cruisers at auction.

Hi! to everyone who reads this. Just curious, where did the $100,000 US dollars go to at the city of San Diego. Was it to pay off the Mounted Police salary and their horses feed &/or stable bill? Would someone research that and post it–that would be helpful!

I am very sad to hear that Jo is another victim of the non-payment/ or bad check(s) for payment towards a equine bill! Nothing makes it harder in this day and age to be in the horse business than to have another person taken by someone; who claims or thought they were helping out the HORSES!! If you cannot pay your own bills what makes people think they can help out an animal that is costly! Hay Farms around the country have been ripped off over time by people just like that!
Take care and hope the dollars earned really went to the bill; it was supposed to cover!

instead of getting all-riled and speaking about something you know absolutely nothing about, Horse Auctions, you and people like you should shut the hell up…The 7 horses netted over $110,000US, That’s about a $15,000 average per horse. Idiot, slaughter horses in mexico are worth 20 cents per pound or about 175-200 dollars per head at the border. Geez, you are a clueless, tree-hugging, wanna-be idiot. Rehoming facilities can’t even afford to pay for the feed their horses are consuming…i have several bad checks from some of these “horse-savers” and noone will make the checks good! You want to buy a couple of these NSF checks for a few cents on the dollar..please donate right away so i can get paid for my feed..

I once lived in the area and I am appalled to hear that these former officers are going to be auctioned off. I hope they reconsider and work to find these fine animals loving homes.
