High maneuverability to high stepping to high speeds
We haveĀ opportunities in the next couple of weeks to watch several equestrian disciplines compete.
Some will be online, some are on TV. Some are free to watch, some are pay-per-view.
And, as usual, if you want to watch live streams online you will need a broadband or high-speed connection to the Internet.
West Texas Futurity
Watch cutting horses now through Sunday, Aug. 23, competing in the West Texas Futurity live from Amarillo, Texas. Watching the stream is free as long as you give them your email address, so they can send you announcements of upcoming shows.
Jockeys
The second season of Jockeys will return on Friday night, Aug. 21, air on Animal Planet.
If you already have Animal Planet on cable, you and perhaps your DVRs are set. But they might have full episodes online at the show’s website afterward.
Kentucky State Fair World Championship Horse Show
The second jewel in the American Saddlebred Triple Crown is the Kentucky State Fair World Championship Horse Show from Sunday, Aug. 23, through Saturday, Aug. 29.
The live video stream from Louisville, KY’s, Freedom Hall is a pay-per-view.
If you’re on a budget and want to watch but not fork over the $85 non-member fee for the entire week, I’d suggest watching Friday or Saturday night when the championships are crowned. Or look at the schedule to see where you might find the classes that interest you most.
Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration
The Tennessee Walking Horse National Celebration starts in the morning on Wednesday, Aug. 26, and wraps up with the crowning of its World Grand Champion on Saturday, Sept. 5.
The daytime indoor competition features the flatshod pleasure horses. At night, the action moves outdoors to “The Big Oval,” a football stadium-like arena with a mix of flatshod and performance horses compete.
You can register for the pay-per-view here. If you’re on a budget, you might want to either pick a couple of days, according to what you’ve seen on the schedule. Or you might choose the Championship Pass option which covers all the stake classes.
Travers Stakes
ESPN and ESPNHD will cover The Travers Stakes on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 4:30 to 6 pm.
The Travers is a race for 3-year-olds, and is known as “the Midsummer Derby.”
