It's entirely possible to go to the track and have a great time without betting. Still, a few $2 bets on some races during the occasional day at the races is entirely different from getting hooked on gambling. IMO, gambling is like using alcohol. There's a difference between, say, having some wine at dinner and tying one on. (You can choose your favorite euphemism for overindulging in alchohol.)
