If you love to read Dick Francis novels, then we’ve got some great real-life online fun for you. Because this is a big week for what we Yanks might call “steeplechasing.”

This is Cheltenham National Hunt Festival week, culminating in running of the Cheltenham Gold Cup on Friday.

The Cheltenham Gold Cup is a test of stamina, strategy, endurance and unflappability as teams of horse and rider head for the stretch in front of a grandstand of legendarily roaring fans.

It’s also a friendly competition between the British and the Irish on the weekend prior to St. Patrick’s Day.

To give you an idea of what the course is like, check out this great tour of the course from the BBC.

Yeah, if you watched the tour — go ahead, we’ll wait — you heard it correctly. “Homestretch” is up hill.
