The 2013 Breeders Cup races run on Nov. 1 and 2. The simple part? Think NBC, both cable and network. But the best news of all?

You won’t need cable to watch The Big Race, the Breeders Cup Classic. Coverage begins at 8 pm EDT on your local NBC TV affiliate. Regular TV.

Click here to watch a promo for the 2013 Breeders Cup races, as seen embedded above.

An NBC Sports press release goes into more detail about the broadcasts, available via TV, cable TV and online video stream.

As for the rest of the races? A tad more complicated because they’ll be on cable and, perhaps, out of reach for many of you.

Check the websites for the Breeders Cup and NBC Sports Live Access for streaming on your digital device (tablet, smartphone.)

All times were taken from the Breeders Cup website and calculated for EDT. On the website, they’re local time for Santa Anita, which is on PDT (three hours after EDT). As always, check your local listings. Your mileage and timings may vary.

Friday, Nov. 1

4 – 8 pm EDT – NBC Sports Network (cable)

Looks like we may see some of the 1-3/4 mile Marathon, usually only the start and the stretch run. Post time for the Marathon is 4:45 EDT. (The Marathon is half a mile longer than the Belmont Stakes.) Granted, we’ll probably see at least an hour of scene-setting features and setups for the major Friday races, as well as for Saturday’s Classic.

Saturday, Nov. 2

4 – 8 EDT – NBC Sports Network (cable)

Looks like we’ll miss the Juvenile Filly and the Filly and Mare Turf, unless the TV team videos those two races and may yet only play back just the stretch runs. (BTW, that’d be nice, if y’all from NBC Sports happen to be reading.) NBC’s coverage begins in time for the Filly & Mare Sprint, post time 4:21 pm EDT.

8 – 9 EDT – NBC-TV (your local NBC station – regular TV)

A full hour will be dedicated to covering the important Breeder’s Cup Classic. Yes, that’s horse racing on prime time network television. Easy peasy.

For you sticklers or if you plan to be out at your local sports bar to watch, post time for the Breeders Classic is 8:35 pm EDT.

Also, FWIW, set your clocks back one hour before you go to bed. We go back to Standard Time on Sunday morning.
